Welcome to Camp Greenbrier! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit us, at least here on our website! Camp Greenbrier is truly a special place – a place where boys can relax, enjoy the great outdoors, and learn to live unselfishly with others, not to mention participating in a whole slew of fantastic activities.
When folks ask me how long I’ve been here, I often respond by asking them whether the summer I spent in my mom’s belly counts. If so, it’s been 60 years! I’ve been a camper, a counselor, and the Camp Director since 1997. In all, my family has run Greenbrier for 77 years! As you can imagine, I have Camp Greenbrier in my bones.
When I was seven, I learned to tie all the knots in Woodcraft. At nine, I went on my first canoe trip down the Greenbrier River. Along the way, I learned table cheers, laughed hysterically at campfire, lost a few wrestling matches, learned to shoot a bow and arrow, and woke up to the bugle. Most importantly, I made great friends that I still hold dear.
There are so many things that make Camp Greenbrier special: the spectacular location along the beautiful Greenbrier River; the great counselor to camper ratio of 1 to 3; the food; the wonderful people. It is the tradition, though, that stands out most for me.
It always brings a smile to my face when an old camper returns. He drives in, gets out of his car, looks around, and says: “Just the way I remember it – exactly how it used to be.” The first time I heard that, the camper had been to Greenbrier in the 1920’s!
I hope you enjoy your visit to our website. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all. I look forward to hearing from you.
